Saint Louis, MO: Authorities in Missouri detained a mother who allegedly recorded a video in which she smothered her infant son with a blanket and her hand. She also explained to a friend that the act made her feel happy and an “adrenaline rush.
The harrowing incident happened at a residence in the 1200 block of Warren Street on April 15th.
A probable cause statement from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department states that twenty-year-old Emma Rigdon is facing two class D felony counts of child abuse or neglect.
According to the police, Rigdon smacked and pinched the boy’s leg, causing him to cry. The boy had “difficulty breathing and was flailing his arms and legs in an attempt to survive as Rigdon was covering his nose and mouth, according to the affidavit. She recorded the entire incident.
She then texted her friend, “IDK when I do that I feel happy like adrenaline rush.”
After that, she allegedly made another video in which she covered the boy’s face with a blanket, causing him to cry and “vigorously grab at the blanket.” According to the police, Rigdon also sent the video to the same friend.

“I be stopping right before he dies. Last time he was blue,” she said to her friend. Rigdon also said, “I really wanna kill him but I don’t want to go to jail so. It’s unfortunate. He’s just gonna have to pay for his existence.”
The authorities took the mother into custody. It is not clear who reported her to the police.
The infant survived and the reason why Rigdon was harming her own son is not clear as per Law and Crime.
Rigdon was taken into custody by the police and is currently being held without bond at the St. Louis City Justice Center. She will appear in court on Wednesday.
