Georgia Man Slaughtered Roommate; Judge gave Life Imprisonment to Killer after Trial

A DeKalb County resident has been given a life sentence for the tragic act of taking his roommate’s life.

Zakariya Wildman, 25, has been found guilty by a DeKalb County jury on charges including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

An investigation conducted by DeKalb County police reveals that officers were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Meadowlark Drive in unincorporated Decatur on Jan. 12, 2023, following a report of a person being shot.

Residents of the house informed the authorities that their roommate, Wildman, had purchased a firearm earlier in the day and later chose to engage in target practice in the backyard.

Residents in the vicinity expressed their distress over the sound of gunshots, particularly due to their worries for the local children.

During an altercation, Kali Winston, 28, confronted Wildman, resulting in a heated exchange that turned physical.

The roommates successfully intervened and resolved the altercation between the two individuals. Wildman, with a noticeable bruise on his eye, made his way to his room and retrieved his firearm. A roommate quickly sought assistance.

Witnessed by the other roommate, who happened to be Winston’s girlfriend, the shocking incident unfolded as Wildman entered the living room and fired a fatal shot at Winston’s chest.

After that, he quickly fled from the house. Tragically, Winston succumbed to his injuries. A man was discovered strolling in the neighborhood, leading to his arrest by the police without any trouble.

He insisted that he shot Winston in self-defense, even though he acknowledged that the altercation had already concluded as per Fox Atlanta News.

Following the jury’s verdict, Wildman was sentenced to life in prison by a judge in DeKalb County.
