Honk News (North Las Vegas, Nevada) – A 12-year-old girl from Nevada has been taken into custody on allegations of stabbing her father after a dispute that occurred shortly after Christmas.
Authorities in North Las Vegas, Nevada, were alerted on the evening of December 27 by a family member of the girl, who suspected that her father had passed away in their shared apartment.
A report indicated that the girl believed someone could have entered the residence. Authorities responded and confirmed the death of 55-year-old James Waldie, the father of the girl.
Detectives uncovered that law enforcement had been called to the apartment several times earlier in December, where the girl faced allegations of assaulting her father, resulting in noticeable injuries, and had fled on several occasions, including on the day of the tragic incident.
Following what are said to be inconsistent statements regarding the incident on December 27, authorities report that she ultimately admitted to stabbing her father after a dispute arose between them.
A girl has been taken into custody and placed in the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center, facing a murder charge involving a deadly weapon.

The loss has “devastated the family and friends of James, knowing that he will never again crack a joke or put on a smile on someone else’s face,” Waldie’s family members wrote on a fundraiser as reported by PEOPLE.
As noted in his obituary, Waldie leaves behind a legacy of family, including four daughters, two stepdaughters, one son, two stepsons, and two grandchildren.
“James’s memory will forever be enshrined in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his kindness,” reads the obituary.
