Las Vegas, NV – A man from Nevada is currently in custody without bail following his arrest for the suspected deadly stabbing of his son, whom he asserted “fell on a knife.”
On December 22, at approximately 1:00 p.m., authorities from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to a report of a man with stab wounds to the chest in an apartment located on Pebble Road near Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas. A man named Nelson Garcia-Leon was found deceased at the scene, with no information available regarding his age, as confirmed by first responders.
Close to the location where Garcia-Leon was discovered, authorities uncovered a bloodstained, 15-inch knife that had been “hastily hidden behind an ice cooler.”
Court documents acquired by KLAS, a local CBS affiliate, reveal that LVMPD homicide detectives initiated their investigation with a woman identified as Garcia-Leon’s “girlfriend,” despite their brief acquaintance of only about a month.
She mentioned that she had a closer relationship with Garcia-Leon’s father, Juan Garcia-Hernandez, 81, and that both the father and son lived together in the Pebble Road apartment.
Upon returning to the apartment after her shopping trip, the woman noticed Garcia-Leon behaving strangely and ultimately spotted blood on his chest. She was said to have spotted a knife lying on the ground.

Upon inquiring about the incident, Garcia-Hernandez reportedly stated that his son had fallen onto the knife.
While attempting to call for help — seemingly pressing additional digits — she informed authorities that the father “was doing nothing to assist” his hurt child. Upon her request for assistance, he exited the apartment.
Authorities also spoke with Garcia-Hernandez, who mentioned that he and his son had engaged in a “verbal altercation” regarding his son’s drinking habits. After Garcia-Leon fell, the father recounted how he sought assistance from nearby neighbors, who aided him in transferring his son to the bedroom.
A neighbor called 911, reporting that the victim’s father claimed “his son fell on a knife and was bleeding,” while observing that the father “didn’t seem stressed at all.”
As authorities noted the inconsistencies in Garcia-Hernandez’s account, suspicions arose regarding his potential involvement in his son’s injury. Ultimately, the supposed weapon was discovered “quickly concealed behind an ice cooler.” Records from law enforcement acquired by KLAS revealed that Garcia-Hernandez faced multiple arrests for allegedly menacing individuals with knives, with one incident occurring as recently as May.
Garcia-Hernandez has been taken into custody and faces charges of open murder. He remains in custody at the Clark County Jail with no option for bail. The next hearing is set for January 9.
