Meth Trafficker Sentenced to Prison in Texas after Police Busted Meth Bricks Stashed in Truck in McAllen

McAllen, TX: An Edinburg trafficker sentenced to 192 months for transporting $1 million worth of methamphetamine, according to federal authorities.

A substantial quantity of methamphetamine valued at approximately $1 million was confiscated by federal authorities after apprehending a trafficker intending to distribute the drug in Texas.

Daren Lynn Lopez, a 51-year-old resident of Edinburg, has been sentenced to nearly twenty years in prison for his involvement in a significant narcotics conspiracy, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Lopez, who has three previous felonies on his record, received a 192-month federal prison term from U.S. District Chief Judge Randy Crane.

Yesterday, a substantial sentence was handed down by the judge due to the judge’s apprehension about the “addictive, powerful, and hazardous impact methamphetamine has on the community,” as stated in a press statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Lopez will be under the supervision of the law for three more years after being released from prison.

In March 2022, the methamphetamine operation started when Lopez coordinated the transportation of a trailer carrying 200 kilograms of the narcotic from Mexico across the U.S. border.

The vehicle successfully arrived at Lopez’s Edinburg truck yard with its illegal cargo without any issues.

Lopez, acting as a logistics expert, arranged for a courier to transport the stockpile to Dallas at that location.

Yet, his criminal operation was disrupted when police discovered a concealed compartment in the trailer’s roof containing many bricks of methamphetamine.

Lopez is presently detained and will soon be moved to a federal prison, as verified by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The arrest is a significant event in America’s continuous battle against drugs, emphasizing the measures taken to prevent narcotics from entering the country through its borders.

Lopez’s destiny has been determined during the period between his admission of guilt and the official punishment — he is destined to spend his future incarcerated, apart from the paths of trafficking where he previously worked.

The DEA led the arrest of Lopez, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Garcia playing a crucial role in court. The conviction and severe punishment serve as a stern warning to all implicated that engaging in drug trafficking can result in the loss of freedom, and the government will maintain strict enforcement measures.
