Man Shot as Carjacker Stole Cab on Gunpoint in Chicago; Suspect on Large: Authorities

A carjacking that took place on Saturday night in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago resulted in the shooting of a rideshare driver, who is currently recovering from his injuries.

He was traveling in the 200 block of North Latrobe at approximately 9:01 p.m., when a man got into the backseat of the vehicle and brandished a gun at him, according to the Chicago police. The man was 49 years old at the time.

After that, the perpetrator gave the driver the order to exit the vehicle, and when the driver did so, the shooter opened fire, hitting the victim in the leg, according to the reporting of the police.

After that, the suspect allegedly fled in the gray automobile that belonged to the victim, as reported by the police as per NBC Chicago.

The victim was sent to a nearby medical facility, where he was reported to be in satisfactory condition. According to the Chicago Police Department, there are no suspects currently in custody, and the investigation into the attack is still ongoing.
