Immigrant Father Shot Son to Death; Shot Himself Too in Hialeah, Florida

Hialeah, FL: Authorities in Hialeah are looking into whether the shooting deaths of a man and a child on Thursday night were murders or suicides.

It took place in a living room at the Lake House flats in the 7225 block of W. 11 Court. Investigators say they found a Pakistani man in his 30s or early 40s dead with a child who neighbors say is no older than six years old. They were both shot.

Around 5:15 p.m., a mother went to one of the apartments on the ground floor and found both the guy and the child dead.

Residents in Miami told Larry Seward of CBS News Miami that they heard screams soon after the killing. They said they thought they knew this family and had seen a dad with his kid.

People in Seward’s neighborhood told him that they had seen a father and son from the same apartment building. The dad was riding his bike with his kid and didn’t see any trouble.

Police in Hialeah are trying to figure out why a 36-year-old man killed his 6-year-old son with a gun and then killed himself in an apartment on Thursday.

A police spokesman, Lt. Eddie Rodriguez, told CBS News Miami’s Peter D’Oench that they got a call from a family member about the killing at 7225 W. 11TH Court, Lake House rentals.

“I heard only one scream, and it seemed to be from a woman,” said a neighbor.Raul Arteaga, another neighbor, said, “It’s very sad.”

Some neighbors said they hadn’t seen any major issues with the apartment building before.

He said, “It’s just a tragedy.” The mother of the child and her family are getting all the help we can right now to deal with this terrible loss. We can’t believe it. He did terrible things, and as I already said, we are talking to his family to try to figure out why he did them.

The authorities have not revealed the identities of the victims and the investigation is ongoing.
