Ashland City, TN: A teen pizza delivery driver in Middle Tennessee got scared when he parked in the wrong driveway of a house. Police say the homeowner shot at him several times, and the driver is now healing.
Late Monday night, someone shot someone on a private street in Ashland City, which is about 20 miles northwest of Nashville.
Criminal charges say that Ashland City Police Department officers were called to a house where they found a young Domino’s pizza driver who had been shot at least seven times. The victim is identified as Kevin Wheeler.
When police arrived, they found the person who had been shot and asked him what he and his wife had seen on the Ring camera: a truck parked in their driveway. They thought someone was breaking into his truck, police wrote in the complaint.
That’s what the attacker said. He got his 9mm gun, went outside, and started shooting at the truck to “disable” it. The police said they found seven empty shell casings at the spot.
The victim told police that he was delivering a pizza and thought he was in the right driveway. After delivering the order, “he saw a man running at him and shooting at him,” the court papers said.
Police said that three bullets hit the victim’s truck, and they said that they looked at Ring camera video of the shooting.
“I’ll say that nothing close to what I thought would happen on a delivery,” the 18-year-old victim told WTVF-TV. “I was practically about to die right then, so I think it’s attempted murder.”
The victim said that most of the houses on the street are “only a few feet from each other.” He also told the news outlet that he parked right next to the right house, where someone had ordered food.
Prosecutors charged 32-year-old Ryan Babcock with felony aggravated attack in connection with the shooting. Police said they arrested him.
In court papers for Babcock, there was not yet a name of an attorney of record. On Monday, Babcock was booked into jail in Cheatham County, but he was freed the next day on a $50,000 bond.
He is due to go to court for the first time on June 12.
