In Marion County, a lady is facing charges for allegedly failing to help a victim who was a minor when she reported being a victim of sexual assault.
According to a criminal complaint, on March 27, troopers from the Marion County detachment of the West Virginia State Police conducted a forensic interview with a 7-year-old girl who claimed to have been the victim of four consecutive sexual assaults.
According to troopers, the youngster told the interviewer that the sexual attacks began in 2023 and continued throughout 2024, and that the victim had told Fairmont resident Chelsea Nice, 34, about them.
Troopers were informed by the minor that “she was left at home with her assailant” despite Nice “had already been made aware of a prior assault, resulting in additional assaults,” as noted in the complaint.
investigators gathered during their investigation that Nice “did not notify authorities or take the victim to the hospital to receive medical evaluation or potential treatment.” During an interview, Nice informed investigators that “she was aware of one allegation,” according to troopers.
The victim told Nice about each incident, which amounted to four, but Nice “took no action to report to the proper authorities or assist in the victim seeking medical evaluations or treatment,” as stated in the complaint, which troopers discovered.
Nice is facing charges of injuries resulting from child maltreatment. Her bond is $200,000. She is now detained in the North Central Regional Jail as reported by WBOY News.
