Sleeping Woman Molested by Man from Streets in New York City; Perpetrator Arrested after Police Track Suspect using Footage from Surveillance Cameras

A man was taken into custody following what police described as a terrifying attack. The suspect allegedly broke into the victim’s Bronx home and sexually attacked her while she slept in her bed.

Around 4:30 a.m. on June 29, the suspect broke into the residence of a 20-year-old Wakefield woman near East 230th Street and White Plains Road. The incident was reported by the police. The perpetrator sexually abused the victim while she slept in her bed.

At that point, the assailant bolted. Over the next several days, officers canvassed the area, chatted with residents, and distributed leaflets featuring the wanted guy. On the night of the event, surveillance footage saw him strolling along the street.

Authorities detained 30-year-old Claudio Miranda on Monday in relation to the reported assault. He faced charges of bribery of a witness, third-degree burglary, and first-degree criminal sex act. It was not immediately apparent who Miranda’s Bronx attorney was.

About half a mile away, an incident had happened the month prior to that one. Near the intersection of East 235th Street and Vireo Drive, a guy allegedly attempted to rape a lady by placing her in a chokehold. An unrelated event has led to the identification of Miguel Rivera as a suspect.

The number of rapes and other sex offenses registered in the precinct has increased by 22% in 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to recent data from the New York Police Department.
