Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville has been barred from the Young Thug/YSL case in Fulton County.
Judge Rachel Krause made her ruling on the motions presented by attorneys for Jeffery Williams, Deamonte Kendrick, and Kayla Bumpus on July 15th in Fulton County.
In her ruling, Krause emphasized the importance of maintaining the public’s trust in the judicial system. She acknowledged that Judge Glanville is capable of presiding fairly over the matter, but ultimately decided that excusing him from further handling the case is necessary to uphold the public’s confidence.
Judge Glanville’s recusal was granted for both Kendrick and Williams by Krause. Nevertheless, she rejected Bumpus’ request to dismiss the show cause order and disqualify Judge Glanville, deeming it irrelevant.
Defense attorneys, including Brian Steel, the lawyer representing Young Thug, have been consistently filing motions for a mistrial. They argue that Judge Glanville displayed bias against them and their clients.
Nevertheless, a meeting took place on June 10 involving Judge Glanville, prosecutors from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, and state witness Kenneth Copeland. This meeting resulted in several requests for recusal.
In the order, Krause expressed her agreement with Judge Glanville’s assessment regarding the ex parte meeting, but she did mention that holding the meeting in open court could have been a better option.
Glanville denied the initial recusal requests. Afterwards, Kendrick attempted to go around Judge Glanville by appealing to the Georgia Supreme Court. They refused to take it into consideration, but instructed another judge to review the motions.
Judge Krause has been assigned to the case. Steel also made an attempt to have Judge Krause recused, citing the fact that Judge Glanville had made a donation to her re-election campaign a few months ago and because they both serve as judges in Fulton County. However, Judge Krause denied the motion.
Currently, the identity of the person who will assume responsibility for the case and the date when the trial will continue remain uncertain.
There are still other defendants who are awaiting trial, including Marquavius Huey, Deamonte Kendrick (also known as Yak Gotti), Quamarvious Nichols, Rodalius Ryan, and Shannon Stillwell.
