Boise, ID- Tragically, authorities in Idaho have reported that a 5-year-old boy, who had gone missing after straying from his own birthday celebration, has been discovered deceased.
Matthew Glynn was last seen at home late Monday afternoon while celebrating his fifth birthday with friends and family, according to Boise police.
After an extensive search, authorities discovered a body in a canal on Tuesday, according to Boise police. According to the police, the Ada County Coroner’s Office will provide an official identification for the victim, who is believed to be Matthew.
A body was discovered in a canal approximately half a mile north of the location where the boy was last seen, according to authorities. According to the police, there is no evidence of any wrongdoing.
According to Winegar, officers were alerted to a report of a missing child just before 6 p.m. local time. According to Winegar, Matthew, who had autism and was nonverbal, was wearing Batman pajamas at the time of his disappearance.
“We are heartbroken over this development today,” Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar said in a statement. “We want to thank our many partners for their response as well as the public for their willingness to help another member of our community in a time of need.”
Authorities quickly initiated an extensive search, utilizing drones, ATVs, UTVs, and tracking dogs. The search primarily concentrated on the waterways in the area, as Matthew had a strong attraction to water, according to the police chief.
According to Winegar, the police also carried out thorough searches of people’s backyards by going door-to-door.
Ron Christensen from Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue mentioned that a team of 30 personnel participated in the search on Monday night. This included mountain bike teams who covered sections of a nearby greenbelt.
“Sadly, this is not the outcome we were all hoping for. Our hearts go out to Matthew’s family, and we extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time,” Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer said in a statement.
