A man from East Texas was arrested last month on charges of sexually assaulting a young teenager multiple times over a year.
Jonathan Birdwell, 44, of Cushing, has been arrested based on the charges listed in Gregg County judicial records. The charges are:
- Sexual assault of a child (5 counts)
- Trafficking of a child to engage in sexual conduct (5 counts)
The arrests were a result of warrants issued in Nacogdoches County.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office has reported that Birdwell was initially arrested on July 16 due to warrants connected to allegations of sexually assaulting a teenager on multiple occasions over the past year.
It was revealed that Birdwell transported the teenager from their home to a different place on multiple occasions. The investigation commenced after the teenager made a distressing statement in the early hours of July 16.
The judge determined his bail amount to be $625,000 as reported by CBS-19 News.
Birdwell was transferred to the Gregg County Jail on Monday as part of a cooperative agreement between the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies in East Texas. This arrangement allows for assistance when the Nacogdoches County Jail reaches its maximum capacity.
