5-week-old Infant Brutally Slammed at Floor; Parents Arrested in West Virginia after Doctors Discovered Several Broken Bones

Charleston, WV- Court documents indicate that two parents from Mingo County were charged with child negligence after an infant was brought to a local hospital with several bone fractures. The infant was sent to the hospital.

According to a criminal complaint that was submitted to the Mingo County Magistrate Court, Carl Thomas, age 26, and Cheyanne Varney, age 22, both of Red Jacket, West Virginia, were charged with child negligence as a result of an investigation that started in June.

Troopers stated that they initiated their investigation on June 13 after receiving a complaint from health personnel who stated that Thomas and Varney took a 5-week-old child to a hospital in Charleston with several fractures.

Several fractures were reported to have occurred in the infant’s left arm, both legs, and ribs, according to the complaint. It is believed that these fractures occurred while the child was in the care of Thomas and Varney.

Currently, both Thomas and Varney are being held on cash-only bonds of $200,000 each.
