Winston-Salem, NC: A 17-year-old student at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, named Aquavis Hickman has been charged with a number of serious crimes connected to attacking teachers.
According to Fox News, the indictments were released by Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill on Friday, May 3, 2024. He talked about how serious the crimes were and how the community was against them.
A lot of people were angry about what happened on April 15 when Hickman is said to have beaten up a female teacher.
The grand jury returned two indictments against him, one for second-degree kidnapping and one for assault on a government worker, in this case the teacher.
Besides that, he is accused of making threats against the teacher. O’Neill went into more detail about the claims, saying that Hickman unfairly locked and restrained the teacher without her permission, hoping to scare her.
It was thought that Hickman’s threats were real, which made the teacher worry for her safety. After being charged with striking another teacher at the same school in February, Hickman is now being charged with this crime.
Attacking a government worker and making threats are two of the charges against him.
Hickman and at least two others were also charged with a misdemeanor count of riot for reportedly acting in a way that put the victim in clear and present danger.
O’Neill stressed how serious the charges were and said again that the community is against attacks on teachers.
In a promise to protect teachers, he, along with Sheriff Kimbrough and Chief Penn, promised to punish those who hurt them quickly and severely.
