11-month-old Toddler Saved by First Responders, Father Arrested for Fentanyl Exposure

New York City, NY: The authorities in New York City have arrested the father of an 11-month-old toddler as the toddler was found unresponsive after Fentanyl exposure.

On bodycam video, New York cops and other first responders save an 11-month-old baby from a fentanyl overdose. While detectives were looking into the baby’s father for exposure, prosecutors say, a woman died from the same batch of drugs.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office said Monday that the boy lived, that his father is being charged with child abuse and other crimes, and that the father’s drug dealer is being charged with the death of the woman and other crimes.

Newly released bodycam footage from January shows cops arriving at a home in Lake Grove, New York, and trying to revive a child named John Doe who wasn’t breathing.

Rescuers gave the child Narcan, which is an opioid antagonist, and the kid started crying right away, which is a good sign.

We are not revealing John’s father’s name to protect the 11-month-old’s privacy. He has only been named as a man from Lake Grove who is 35 years old. Accused of assault, endangering the welfare of a kid, and criminal possession of a controlled substance among other things.

Robert Mauro, 39, is accused of selling drugs and is charged with manslaughter for the death of the woman. He is also being charged with a number of drug-related crimes and one count of messing with evidence.

Police checked the baby’s dad’s phone after he overdosed and found Mauro as the person they thought was giving them the drugs, prosecutors said. County police in another station found the body of a 31-year-old woman in Patchogue while they were still looking into the case. In addition, her phone allegedly had information about a drug deal she made with Mauro.

When the police searched his Miller Place home, he reportedly tried to throw evidence out a window, but police caught him and took it back.

Prosecutors say Mauro knew how strong his drugs were because they say they found another conversation on his phone in which he told someone that taking drugs himself “knocked him out” for hours.

There is no bail for either of the guys.
