Phoenix, AZ: Legal documents indicate that one of the women who lodged sexual assault allegations against exiled Major League Baseball pitcher Trevor Bauer was indicted this week on charges of defrauding the pitcher.
On Monday, Darcy Adanna Esemonu, who allegedly demanded $1.6 million in a lawsuit against Bauer for impregnating her, was charged with one count of fraudulent schemes and artifices.
In documents provided by the Maricopa County District Attorney’s Office, Bauer and an additional male were cited as the alleged victims in the case weeks after the grand jury rendered its indictment.
Furthermore, she was accused of larceny by extortion, but exclusively in relation to the other purported victim.
If convicted on both counts, Esemonu could be sentenced to over sixteen years in prison.
The definition of fraudulent schemes and artifices is the acquisition of an advantage through deceitful means.
According to multiple news sources, including Fox News, Esemonu is the same woman who filed a lawsuit against Major League Baseball professional Bauer in Arizona in 2023, alleging that he choked her and threatened to kill her with a knife.
Additionally, the lawsuit asserts that Bauer became pregnant as a result of the intimate encounter; Bauer has denied this.

Bauer, who has never been charged in connection with the allegations, filed a countersuit in which he claimed the woman demanded $1.6 million to terminate the alleged pregnancy.
His countersuit, as reported by the Associated Press, alleges that he paid $8,761 in connection with the alleged pregnancy and abortion, despite his initial refusal. He stated that he would support her decision regardless.
The woman subsequently disclosed that she had experienced a miscarriage, according to the news source.
Bauer was reinstated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in January 2023 subsequent to a protracted suspension associated with the aforementioned allegations.
