A Webster County man was taken into custody over the weekend and is accused of 19 offenses, including sexual assault and attempted murder.
According to West Virginia State Police, Anthony Fletcher, 48, was taken into custody following a car collision on Route 20 near Camden on Friday. This incident resulted in numerous additional charges related to various incidents, including the rape of a pregnant woman.
Police verified that Fletcher—driving a black SUV—intentionally slammed a pickup truck carrying three individuals after speaking with witnesses to the collision. Court filings state that after the truck overturned, Fletcher ran after the driver while yelling, “I’m going to kill you, you little rat!”
Fletcher was charged with three charges of attempted murder and three counts of attempting to commit a felony despite the fact that all three occupants of the truck were hurt.
Further charges against Fletcher were brought after an interview with the victim of a sexual assault on August 24th was held on Saturday.
Pregnant, the victim reported to police that she was walking on Mill Fork Road when Fletcher pulled over and forced her into his car. According to court records, Fletcher threatened to kill the woman and her partner if she didn’t let him in.
Upon reaching his house, Fletcher forced the victim to take a shower, put on handcuffs, and climb into his bed. He then pushed her off the bed and made her engage in oral sex with him. Fletcher bit her nose, strangled her until she was nearly unconscious, and then started raping her.
According to the authorities, Fletcher repeatedly struck the woman in the stomach while raping her in an effort to hurt the unborn child. According to court records, Fletcher forced the victim to take a shower after he had sexually assaulted her in an effort to remove any proof.
According to the police, Fletcher repeatedly informed the victim throughout the rape that he was going to kill her and that he had already dug two holes.
In connection with that event, Fletcher is accused of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of malicious assault, kidnapping, and strangling.
Fletcher is charged with one crime of possessing a stolen vehicle, two charges of receiving or transferring stolen property, four counts of removing or modifying a vehicle ID, and one count of destroying property in relation to a stolen truck.
As of right now, Fletcher is being held at the Central Regional Jail; no bond has been listed.
