For women who want to raise their children in a safe place, it can be hard to find the right city to live in. They did a new study that shows which parts of U.S. cities are best for women to do well and reach their full potential.
It looked at 182 cities, including 150 of the country’s most famous, and gave each one a score based on factors that might impact a woman’s quality of life.
Experts looked at things like poverty, job security, safety, suicide rates, and access to health care to decide how to rank each place.
The list’s top spot went to Columbia, Maryland. The city that came in first had the highest median pay for women workers when the cost of living was taken into account.
The study found that over time, the wage gap between men and women tends to widen. This means that women may be able to get ahead financially by moving to a place where job opportunities are better.
