A Texas singer, aged 26, was shot while signing autographs after her weekend performance, according to officials.
Jada Thomas, known as Jada Arnell, is reported to be in stable condition after the shooting that took place just before 6 p.m. Saturday at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters in downtown Dallas, according to police in an email.
Authorities in Dallas apprehended 26-year-old Micah Thomas in the vicinity shortly after the event occurred. She has been charged with aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon and is currently held at the Dallas County Jail on a bond of $200,000.
A local Fox station, KDFW, has acquired an arrest affidavit revealing that Williams observed Thomas’ complete performance at the venue, which was attended by approximately 200 individuals. After the event, Thomas remained on stage to sign autographs.
According to the affidavit, while she was engaged in her activity, Williams, who was only a few feet away, drew a handgun and shot Thomas in the chest. Williams subsequently fled the scene.
Curtis King, the founder of the academy, informed the TV station that he pursued Williams.
According to the affidavit, authorities discovered Williams in the lobby of a nearby hotel and arrested her. It is claimed that she possessed a firearm in her handbag. Police report that Williams has confessed to the shooting.
She allegedly stated that she and Thomas had an earlier disagreement. According to local ABC affiliate WFAA, witnesses who talked to police about Williams characterized her as “really robotic and off.”
King expressed that it feels unsettling to realize we inhabit a world where individuals appear determined to inflict harm on others, often without any clear justification. He thinks Williams took part in the academy’s summer program roughly a decade ago. The reason behind the shooting remains unclear.
Authorities report that Thomas is still hospitalized.
