Marvel and Disney Plus do not have a monopoly on big comic-book-inspired TV shows. Sweet Tooth season 2 is currently one of Netflix’s most anticipated programs, following in the footsteps of Stranger Things’ inaugural season, which sprang out of nowhere to become a major sensation.

Sweet Tooth season 2 will take us back to a dangerous world still reeling from the aftermath of the so-called “Great Crumble” – the fall of civilization caused by a global pandemic known simply as “the Sick,” continuing the streaming platform’s big-budget adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s post-apocalyptic Vertigo comic.

Gus (Christian Convery), a small child with deer antlers and ears, and the title’s sweet tooth, is at the heart of the plot. He may be linked to the deadly virus that has killed off much of the world’s population as one of a new species of human/animal hybrids.

Gus and his unusual partner Tommy ‘Big Man‘ Jepperd, on the other hand, have a lot more to worry about than the origins of a pandemic, as the “General” and his Last Men militia are on a quest to find – and even murder – Hybrid children.

Season 1 spoilers follow as we discuss the actors, narrative, and everything else you need to know about Sweet Tooth, one of the finest Netflix TV programs.

Sweet Tooth season 2 began filming in January 2022, thus there will most likely be a long wait. Based on the release dates of other Netflix episodes, we don’t expect Sweet Tooth season 2 until late 2022 or 2023. With no big departures or fatalities in the season one finale, we expect the cast to remain mostly unchanged, with Christian Convery and Nonso Anozie at the heart of the plot as Gus and Tommy ‘Big Man’ Jepperd.

Sweet Tooth Season 2 Release Date- Possibly Late 2022 or Early 2023

Sweet Tooth’s rebirth comes as no surprise. Not only did the program rocket to the top of the Netflix charts, but the streamer also stated that it has been seen by more than 60 million member households since its debut, giving it a slot among Netflix’s most-watched English-language original series.

Sweet Tooth season 2 will premiere less than two months after the show’s debut, according to a July 29 video release that plays on the primary character’s love of sugar.

However, don’t expect the program to return anytime soon, an Instagram post from star Christian Convery suggests that the cast will return to work in January 2022. Considering that Netflix normally waits 18 months between seasons of its flagship series, and given the epic magnitude of the production, we believe Sweet Tooth season 2 will be released in late 2022 or early 2023.

We don’t anticipate any further delays from Covid-19, given that the whole first season, with the exception of the premiere episode, was shot in New Zealand during the pandemic.

Sweet Tooth Season 2 Cast- Who’ll be Heading Back to the Great Crumble?

The season one conclusion left little room for the Sweet Tooth group to shift drastically the second time around. In fact, with no significant character departures or deaths, we’d be astonished if any of the characters we’ve grown to love throughout the show’s first eight episodes didn’t return.

As a result, we expect Christian Convery as Gus (the eponymous Sweet Tooth) and Nonso Anozie as his ex-footballer guardian Tommy Jepperd (known as ‘Big Man’) to remain prominent players in the Sweet Tooth season 2 ensemble.

Adeel Akhtar as Aditya Singh, the doctor desperately trying to save his wife, Rani (Aliza Vellani), from the Sick; Stefania LaVie Owen as former Animal Army commander Bear; and Dania Ramirez as Aimee Eden, protector of Wendy (Naledi Murray) and other Hybrids at the so-called Preserve, should also be seen more. And it appears that Neil Sandilands, as the General, autocratic leader of the Last Men, will continue to torment Hybrids and humans alike.

It would also be surprising if Will Forte does not return to the Sweet Tooth season 2 cast (in flashback) as Gus’s late “Pubba,” while the season 1 conclusion clearly implied that Amy Seimetz will portray Gus’s’mother’ – or, more precisely, creator – Birdie.

Sweet Tooth wouldn’t be Sweet Tooth without narrator James Brolin’s affable narration.

What’s on Netflix(opens in new tab) revealed in August 2021 that the producers planned to add four new Hybrid youngsters (about 10 years old) to the cast: Finn Fox, Wally Walrus, Haley Mockingbird, and JoJo Cat.
And a casting call went out in New Zealand a few weeks later indicating that the program was searching for “talented youngsters who may be deaf, hearing impaired HOH and kids conversant in NZSL Sign Language“, to work on a shoot running “between January-June 2022”.

There has also been much discussion about whether the show’s most renowned producer, Robert Downey Jr., will join the Sweet Tooth season 2 ensemble – and who he may play if he does.

“I suppose if our three in the film became a quartet and he just joined our band along the road and kind of assisted us, and maybe aided us along the way…” When asked who Downey may portray, Anozie. I believe a character who does not feature in the comic book may truly come up and perform.

Sweet Tooth Season 2 Trailer- Is There One?

Given that the program has only recently begun production, speculating about a Sweet Tooth season 2 trailer is a tad premature.

So far, the closest we’ve gotten is a quick Q&A with Christian Convery, the show’s young star, during the DC FanDome online event in October 2021. It doesn’t reveal much about the next season, but there are a few tidbits regarding the show’s production, like the revelation that his deer ears are remote-controlled.

Sweet Tooth Season 2 Story- What can we expect from the Plot?

While the show is based on Jeff Lemire’s comic book series, the source material may not provide much hints regarding the Sweet Tooth season 2 narrative. Lemire’s narrative is more darker and more brutal than the more family-oriented TV version, which deviates significantly from the book.

“The goal was to make it for a family audience,” said producer Susan Downey to Variety (opens in new tab). “We want everyone in the family to be able to watch together. We spoke with Jeff Lemire about how Gus is our true north, and how his journey, his connection with Jep, and the intriguing array of individuals and obstacles they face along the way are what matters. That’s when we came on [co-showrunner/director] Jim Mickle and discussed creating this storybook or fairytale dystopia — the concept that if there was a significant decline in people, nature would take over and everything would be green and lush again. We were all assured, and Jeff gave us his approval to preserve what was essential to us.

Beyond the tone shift – “You can do different things with comics and with drawings that, if you did it on screen, it would be beyond shocking,” Lemire told the Express – changes range from the minor (Jepperd was an ice hockey player in the comic, rather than a football star) to the fundamental (the characters of Bear and Aimee didn’t exist prior to the TV show). Other variations in Lemire’s comic include Jepperd giving up Gus to the Last Men and the Animal Army being a gang of adult zealots rather than the young liberation fighters shown on television.

We expect the Sweet Tooth season 2 story to pick up right where the first one left off, with Gus meeting the other Hybrid children, Tommy Jepperd being nursed back to health by Aimee Eden, Dr Aditya Singh being forced to work for the General, and Bear making contact with Gus’s creator, Birdie, at an Alaskan research station.

It also seemed doubtful that Covid-19 will change its mind about portraying the Sweet Tooth’s imaginary, pinky-twitching epidemic – after all, season 1 was shot during a time when much of the world was under lockdown. In fact, Schwartz claims that actual life has influenced the show in various ways.

In a way, aided us. “We didn’t have to go into great detail to convey to our viewers that this is a pandemic. This is what occurred.’ We could accomplish it with simple gestures like the hand sanitizer or the ‘6-feet apart’ sign, which everyone understood.”
