The perplexing situation allegedly evolved progressively over a span of twelve days, as per police reports and recently filed court documents on Friday.

A man who reported discovering human remains in trash sacks near his driveway on April 22 texted the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center, prompting Trotwood police to respond to the 7500 block of Old Dayton Road in the early afternoon.

A police report states that an officer discovered a white tarp that “had the odor of a deceased human with flies around the bag.” The officer discovered two human legs but no blood within a container.

“The legs belonged to Edgar Keiter Sr., of 4555 Croftshire Dr.” in Kettering, according to a statement of facts filed in Kettering Municipal Court on Friday by Kettering Police detective Amy Pedro. Court documents outline the statements of witnesses who claimed Keiter Jr. was present at the Old Dayton Road residence the evening prior to the discovery of the legs.

On April 26, multiple crime scene units and Kettering police were at the Croftshire Drive residence of Keiter Sr. According to court documents, neighbors reported that Keiter Jr. was “observed clearing out the apartment” the week prior and driving his father’s vehicle.

An area of the residence’s carpet had been removed, and bleach possibly had been poured onto the floor, according to an incident report from the Kettering police.

As additional evidence, police recovered a rope, tarp, saw, and saw blade, according to police documents.

In Dayton’s 1700 block of Guenther Avenue, law enforcement also searched a storage unit. According to court records, the individual who rented the unit did so at the request of Keiter Jr. Court documents indicate that police discovered additional body parts in containers that matched the bags in which the legs were discovered.

Additionally, police discovered bloodstained carpet from the Croftshire Drive address in a garage located behind the Ernst Avenue residence of Keiter Jr.

The three allegations of “tampering with evidence” are felonies in the third degree. The charge of “abuse of a corpse” is a felony in the fifth degree. According to court documents, each of the alleged offenses occurred from April 12 to May 1.
