Honk News (Miami, FL) – A Florida school bus driver faces charges after reportedly yanking a boy’s hair and enabling him to be tormented, according to authorities.
According to the Miami Police Department, Lazaro Treminio, 34, is facing child abuse and neglect charges in connection with the events. The boy in question is six.
According to the arrest record acquired by CBS News, the school bus driver intervened in an altercation between the youngster and his own daughter. In one case, the girl allegedly attempted to fight the victim before the boy’s older sister intervened and prevented the argument from becoming violent. The victim stated that Treminio then commanded the youngster “never to touch his daughter” and pulled him by the hair.
The alleged hair-pulling incident took place on the afternoon of November 20, 2024, somewhere near Northwest Seventh Street, according to Miami-based ABC affiliate WPLG.
According to the arrest report, the 6-year-old was “very articulate” and could “differentiate between the truth and a lie.”
The youngster told his parents about the inciting incident, and the family reported the allegations on November 21, according to police.
The alleged victim claimed he had been bullied on multiple occasions. At least once, the youngster informed authorities, Treminio was the instigator, allegedly instructing other children to bully the 6-year-old.
According to the police complaint quoted by CBS News, the 6-year-old was bullied when another youngster threw him to the floor of the bus, causing the boy to hit his head.
The accused victim’s 10-year-old sister has reportedly confirmed her brother’s story, according to authorities. She informed detectives about the hair-pulling and other events in which her sibling was body-slammed by older children.
Furthermore, the boy’s sister claims Treminio instructed her to be silent and not tell her parents what happened on the bus. Treminio was detained on Thursday after being pulled over while driving his own vehicle during a traffic stop, police said.
As of Friday, the bus driver was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $7,500 bond. As of this writing, jail records do not indicate any inmates with the defendant’s name.
During his first court appearance, the defendant appeared before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer.
