Sayreville Police were summoned to Flagstar Bank (77 Main St.) on Thursday, February 28th, following a suspicion that a local elderly person had fallen prey to a fraud. It was said that the con artist, a guy from Rockville, Maryland, drove all the way to New Jersey to get his money.
It was discovered during the inquiry that the woman had clicked on a pop-up message encouraging her to phone a Microsoft number while using her computer, according to the police. Scammers went on a phone campaign convincing the victim that her money was at jeopardy and that she needed to help them get it back.
The defendant was apprehended upon his arrival in Sayreville to extort money from the victim. The 32-year-old Rockville, Maryland, resident Zhongqiang Chen is facing many theft and conspiracy charges.
The employees at Flagstar Bank were thanked by the Sayreville Police for seeing anything out of the ordinary.
