Police found a gun on a thief who was driving a stolen BMW

The Vallejo Police Department says a convicted criminal was caught running away from a stolen car.

A man told the police on Thanksgiving that an armed, masked person stole his 2001 BMW 740 near Sonoma Boulevard and Tennessee Street.

Police in Vallejo found the stolen BMW during a traffic stop near Springs Road and Oakwood Avenue. Police in Vallejo said the driver jumped out of the moving car and ran away on foot. Police say the man dropped and picked up his gun as he ran away, then ran toward an apartment building nearby.

The Air Unit of the California Highway Patrol, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, and the Napa County Sheriff’s Office all helped Vallejo PD find the suspect.

The suspect was caught hiding between a car and a shed. The police talked to the subject over a loudspeaker and told him to turn himself in. VPD said that after the suspect refused, police used a 40mm round that couldn’t kill him.

The suspect then turned himself in. The suspect’s gun, which was not registered to him, was found by the police. The Vallejo police said that his gun was kept safe as proof.

The BMW owner was able to get his car back.

This person, who has a criminal record, has been caught and taken to the Solona County Jail. The individual was also wanted in two other counties for arrest.
