After making “inappropriate comments” to youngsters on picture day at a nearby school, the photographer was ultimately expelled from the premises.
It took place at Chesapeake’s Chittum Elementary School on Monday.
After the remarks were made public, Chittum Principal Bridget Outlaw said in a statement that “school administration immediately addressed the issue,” and the photographer was led off school grounds.
“Students’ parents who raised the issue were informed. Outlaw said that the company’s management quickly took action and opened an inquiry. We would want to thank our pupils for reporting the situation so promptly. We appreciate that our advice to “see something, say something” was put to good use in this instance.
Although the photographer’s identity and the specifics of what was said were not disclosed by the school, WAVY was able to examine a Facebook post that provides some insight into the incident and is attributed to a parent of a Chittum student.
The mom claims in the now-deleted post that her child was asked multiple questions by the photographer, one of which was ““can I steal your identity?” and “can I eat your soul?”
She claimed that after reporting the remarks, her kid sobbed because he felt uncomfortable with the photographer’s questioning.
Through a spokesman, Lifetouch, the photographer’s business, released the following comment regarding the incident: “At Lifetouch, our number one priority is the safety of every student we photograph. We have numerous policies and procedures in place to ensure that safety, including training and background checks on all of our photographers. We take any allegation about a photographer very seriously, and are conducting a thorough internal investigation. In the meantime, the employee in question has been removed from all photography duties.”
