California Father Opens Fire at Mother’s Car as She was Fleeing with Kids after Custody Dispute; Police Capture Suspected Father

According to officials, a father and mother who were fighting over custody of their children started shooting at their car as they were trying to get away from him.

According to a Facebook post made by the Richmond Police Department on Monday, the incident took place on Saturday in the 3500 block of Nevin Avenue at approximately 6:50 p.m. The male suspect and female victim got into an altercation while exchanging child custody documents, according to the investigating officers who arrived at the scene of the shooting.

Two children’s parents were involved in the argument, according to police who spoke with CBS News San Francisco; a third child was with the mother at the time. The mother was trying to flee in her car with their two young children (one under two years old) when the father pulled out a pistol during the fight, according to the police.

According to the authorities, no one was injured when the vehicle was struck by gunshots. The perpetrator ran away on foot but was later located in a home’s crawl space on the 3600 block of Barrett Avenue, approximately one block away. He was located, according to the police, with the assistance of a K9 officer, a drone, and other law enforcement organizations.

According to the police, the guy threw a firearm away, and later authorities found it. No one was named as either the victim or the accused gunman.

Investigators discovered that the suspect’s weapon had been reported stolen.

Police said the defendant is facing many misdemeanor counts, including attempted murder, child abuse, restraining order violations, domestic violence, and possession of a stolen and loaded firearm.
