A woman in Florida is accused of assaulting a girl over errors in her homework, reportedly grabbing her by the collar and striking her multiple times in the face.
Margaret Gissome, 35, faces allegations of assaulting the girl multiple times on September 10. A probable cause affidavit examined by Law&Crime reveals that Gissome “became upset because [victim] was doing her homework wrong” after school that day.
The affidavit did not specify the age of the victim.
According to the affidavit, Gissome reportedly “grabbed [victim] by her collar and began punching [victim] in her face.” The report states that the victim experienced a “busted blood vessel in her left eye” and a “bruise on her lower left lip.”
The victim reported to investigators that Gissome frequently assaults her. In this alleged incident, the victim and her siblings were working on homework when Gissome became upset because the victim provided the wrong answer.
According to the affidavit, Gissome seized the victim by the shirt collar, began shaking her, and then struck her face with a closed fist using the same hand. Following another reported punch to the mouth, Gissome is said to have issued further threats, warning the victim, “don’t worry about your lip because your nose will be next.”
Not long after, Gissome reportedly struck the girl in the chest.
Gissome is currently dealing with serious felony child abuse charges, as reported by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The affidavit failed to disclose the connection between Gissome and the child.
Records indicate that Gissome was taken into custody on Wednesday and was released on Friday after posting a bond of $2,500.
