A Pryor man was found guilty by a federal jury for the heinous crime of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 on Friday.
A man named Adam Joseph King, aged 35, from Pryor, has been found guilty of committing aggravated sexual abuse of a minor under 12 in Indian County, as well as abusive sexual contact with a minor under 12 in Indian County.
The jury reached a verdict in a short amount of time on Friday, convicting King of the crimes, according to the Office of U.S. Attorney Clinton J. Johnson.
The child victim belongs to the Cherokee Nation. During the trial, it was revealed that King had been involved in a sexual act with a child under the age of 12 from November 2017 to August 2021.
In 2017, King reignited a connection with a former girlfriend who had an 8-year-old daughter, as stated in the announcement. Soon after the girlfriend moved in, King began to abuse the child while her mother was away.
The child victim recounted the details of the sexual abuse during the trial and reached out to a school counselor for support. According to expert testimony, the DNA found in King’s bedroom was a match for that of the child victim.
The child victim came forward and reported the abuse to a school counselor in Catoosa. Catoosa Police were promptly notified and took immediate action. According to reports, the crimes took place in Catoosa, and King was initially detained in Rogers County Jail.
According to the Office of U.S. Attorney Clinton J. Johnson, King and his girlfriend, who is also the mother of the victim, have both denied any wrongdoing.
During the investigation, the child victim was taken from her mother’s home and placed under the care of her grandparents.
The announcement stated that the King would continue to be held by the U.S. Marshal Service. The date for his sentencing will be determined and announced in the future as reported by FOX-23 News.
