A woman from Garner has been taken into custody and faces charges of child abuse related to an incident in July involving her 5-year-old son, who reportedly had Texas Pete Hot Sauce poured into his mouth, as stated in the arrest warrants.
On July 30, authorities issued arrest warrants for 28-year-old Meridith Stewart, who is accused of assaulting her son, leading to significant injuries characterized by dark bruising on his legs, buttocks, and lower back. Reports indicated that the boy had hot sauce poured into his mouth as well.
On Thursday, September 12, Stewart surrendered to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office. She faces the following charges:
- Felony negligent child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury,
- 4 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor,
- and 4 counts of child abuse.

A bond of $65,000 was granted to her. As per the court records, she has secured a bond and is now free. She is set to make her initial court appearance on Friday, September 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Wake District Court.
