Mother on Run after Starving 13-year-old Son to Death in Hotel Room in Alabama

A mother is wanted by the authorities after it was reported that her son, who was 13 years old, passed away due to malnutrition and dehydration.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, Serena Starkey, who is 43 years old, is wanted for murder for which an arrest warrant has been issued.

An individual was reported to be unconscious at the Extended Stay America motel located on Cahaba Park Circle on Saturday, March 2. Officers came to the hotel in response to the incident.

According to the police, Aston Starkey was transported to Grandview Hospital, where the medical personnel found him to be deceased.

Following their arrival at the hospital, detectives initiated an inquiry into the death that was not classified. According to the police, the Department of Human Resources in Shelby County has opened an investigation.

The preliminary inquiry conducted by the police found that Aston’s death occurred under questionable circumstances.

According to the Shelby County Department of Human Resources, the Homicide Unit was informed by the police that the autopsy on Aston found that he died as a result of starvation and dehydration, which were compounded by negligence.

The office of the medical examiner determined that the manner of death was that of a homicide as reported by ABC3340 News.
