Mom Hanged Her Two Kids with Dog Leash in Pennsylvania; Sentenced after Heartbreaking Incident which Shook Community

A 41-year-old woman from Pennsylvania has been sentenced to life in prison for the tragic deaths of her two young children, whom she hanged from a beam in their basement with a dog leash five years prior.

On Thursday, Judge M. Theresa Johnson of the Berks County Court of Common Pleas sentenced Lisa Snyder from Kempton, Pennsylvania, to two consecutive life sentences in a state correctional facility for the tragic murders of 8-year-old Connor and 4-year-old Brinley, as reported by authorities.

After a week-long trial in September, Snyder was found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her children. She faced convictions for putting a child’s welfare at risk and for manipulating physical evidence. She received a further sentence ranging from 8 1/2 to 17 years for the lesser offenses.

Officials reported that Snyder deliberately took the lives of her two children and tried to manipulate the situation to make it appear as if her son had murdered his younger sister before ending his own life.

According to earlier reports, on September 23, 2019, Snyder contacted emergency services at her residence in Albany Township concerning her two children. When paramedics reached the location, they discovered Connor and Brinley suspended from a beam above two overturned chairs.

Witnesses at the scene later reported that Snyder seemed “extremely anxious” and “highly nervous” during the incident. Tragically, the children were transported to a hospital and put on life support, but they succumbed three days after being discovered.

Snyder asserted that Connor confided in her about his desire to end his life due to being bullied, and he had also shared his fears of dying in solitude. Despite the tragic circumstances, several witnesses reported that the boy consistently appeared joyful and would never have taken any action to hurt himself or his younger sister.

A week following the tragic loss of the children, Snyder reached out to a friend expressing her need for “two strong drinks.” A friend provided testimony indicating that during their drinking session, Snyder acknowledged that her arrest was probably unavoidable. A friend alleged that Snyder confessed to conducting online searches related to suicide while logged into her son’s Google account.

Authorities revealed that one of the inquiries focused on methods of hanging, and it was noted that the suspect purchased the dog leash intended for the children’s deaths just a day prior. Snyder conducted inquiries related to suicide through carbon monoxide poisoning and viewed episodes of the true-crime series “I Almost Got Away With It.”

Last year, a judge turned down a plea deal that would have permitted Snyder to enter a no-contest plea while being deemed mentally ill for third-degree murder charges.
