In a tragic development, a mother and her boyfriend have been charged in connection with the death of 3-year-old Elijah Vue, whose remains were discovered months following his disappearance, which had prompted an extensive search operation.
Katrina Baur, the mother of Elijah, faces charges for chronic neglect of a child resulting in death, child neglect, and obstructing an officer. Jesse Vang, 39, connected to Elijah’s mother, faces serious charges including repeated physical abuse of a child resulting in death, concealing a corpse, and hindering law enforcement efforts.
Baur and Vang faced multiple charges of child neglect and obstruction following the disappearance of Elijah in February. Following the discovery of Elijah’s remains in September, new charges have been filed in connection with the child’s death.
On February 20, Vang reported Elijah missing, prompting an extensive search operation as teams combed through the city of Two Rivers, urging the public to share any information they might have. In recent months, law enforcement has gathered multiple pieces of evidence, notably a plaid blanket that was found to contain Elijah’s DNA.
On September 7, the remains of Elijah were found in a wooded area on private property, located approximately 3 miles from Vang’s home, where the toddler was said to have been last seen.
Baur and Vang are currently held at the Manitowoc County Jail. They are scheduled to attend a bail hearing regarding the new charges on Friday afternoon at the Manitowoc County Courthouse.
