Maryland Father Killed 4-year-old Son during Argument with Mother on Christmas Eve; Arrested and Charged after His Suicide Attempt Failed

Honk News (Rosedale, MD) – A mother in Maryland is mourning the loss of her 4-year-old son, who was allegedly slain by his father on Christmas Eve after a domestic fight.

Jacobi Jones, 4, was slain at their Rosedale, Maryland, home following a “domestic-related assault” that injured his mother, Promyss Marcelle, and his 1-year-old sister, according to Baltimore County police. (The victim was listed as Jacobi Sa’Fiir Marcelle in his obituary).

The statement from law authorities did not name Promyss Marcelle, although she was recognized as his mother in a fundraiser and by many news outlets who spoke with her.

Jacobi’s father, 30-year-old Mark C. Jones, allegedly shot himself during the event but survived; he was later detained in connection with it, authorities said on December 29.

According to the criminal paperwork, the incident occurred on Christmas Eve morning, when Jones allegedly entered Marcelle’s room at 6 a.m. and began arguing.

Jacobi requested his father to leave the room, but Jones allegedly pulled a handgun from a backpack and began loading it, according to authorities.

Marcelle was on the bed with her children when she “heard a ‘boom’ and felt the back of her shirt get wet, and she fell to the floor,” according to the charge paperwork.

Marcelle is now honoring her son’s memory while also raising awareness about domestic abuse.

Marcelle recalled Jacobi’s excitement about Christmas while participating in a local community walk to raise awareness of domestic abuse.

“He kept trying to open the presents but I would tell him you’ve got to wait till Christmas. And he never got to open those presents,” she said. “But I’m just keeping my son’s name alive.”

She told the site that Jacobi could “light up a room” and was “always smiling.”
