Father Left 2-year-old Son in Room with Space Heater; Arrested after Kid Died from Extreme Temperatures in North Carolina

Honk News (Moore County, NC) – A father in North Carolina is confronting legal repercussions after officials claim he abandoned his child in a room with a space heater for over 12 hours, resulting in the child’s tragic death.

Aaron Lynwood Carter, 27, faces serious legal charges, including one count of felony involuntary manslaughter and one count of felony child abuse resulting in significant bodily harm, related to the tragic death of 2-year-old River Carter, as reported by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

On December 2, 2023, authorities arrived at a residence in West End, N.C., following a distress call, where they discovered the lifeless body of a toddler.

Authorities suspect that the child encountered “high temperatures” leading up to his passing, according to the statement. Reports indicate that the child was left alone in a room with a space heater for over 12 hours.

Officials announced the arrest of Aaron, the father of the child, on January 7 following a comprehensive examination of the medical examiner’s conclusions.

Aaron remains in custody at the Moore County Detention Center with a bond set at $500,000, as reported by the sheriff’s office. The upcoming court date is set for January 9.

The status of his plea and whether he has secured legal representation remains uncertain.
