A man from Johnstown is facing legal charges following allegations of raping and engaging in sexual acts with a minor in October.
Mikel Gwinn, 29, is charged following a report made to police regarding an alleged rape, as stated in a criminal complaint. On October 6, the Upper Yoder Township Police Department received a report regarding a suspected case of child rape.
During a police interview, the 8-year-old child reported to officers that Gwinn had assaulted her and engaged in sexual acts on October 5 and into October 6. According to the affidavit, the child informed officers that Gwinn reportedly displayed pornographic videos to her.
Gwinn reportedly broke free from police custody on October 17 but was apprehended again on November 6.
Gwinn is currently held at the Cambria County Prison, with bail established at 10% of $500,000. He is confronting serious felony charges related to the sexual assault of a child, including statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault, and a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault.
Gwinn is currently dealing with a felony escape charge and has a separate bail amounting to 10% of $500,000.
A hearing is set to take place on Nov. 13.
