A plumbing vehicle detonated on a tranquil residential road in Queens early Friday, causing damage to multiple houses and nearby vehicles, as reported by fire officials and sources.
Dramatic footage captured the vacant Infiniti QX56 bursting into vivid orange flames while stationed on 133 Street in South Ozone Park at approximately 6:45 a.m.
Stunned locals were observed staring at the flaming car — with numerous onlookers believing the persistent crackling sounds were due to fireworks stored inside the vehicle.
According to FDNY Deputy Chief George Healy, the explosion seems to have been triggered by pressurized gas cylinders stored in the work truck.
According to Healy, the hazmat unit at the scene effectively managed several lithium-ion batteries that were found inside the truck.
Images revealed the car entirely charred and abandoned on the road. Six residences suffered shattered windows, and five cars parked close to the burning vehicle were likewise harmed.
No injuries have been reported.
Dinell Harricharan, the owner of the truck, was at his Long Island residence when the explosion took place, he informed The Post.
He shared that he had left the truck, which he relied on for his plumbing work, parked overnight at his younger brother’s residence.
Harricharan reported that he had contacted his insurance provider, only to be informed that they would not be covering any of the damages incurred.
The FDNY Fire Marshals and the NYPD are currently looking into the incident.
