Tucson, AZ: An Arizona man is convicted of killing his younger female cousin and then chopping her body in Tuscon.
It has been determined that the man is responsible for dumping dismembered body parts of his cousin. The incident occurred in Tucson more than four years ago.
Murder in the first degree, kidnapping, and abandonment of a body were all charges that Gerardo Salinas was found guilty of by a jury on Monday, May 13.
According to the authorities, Salinas was responsible for the death of his cousin Sofia Hurtado, who was 17 years old, in March of 2020. Multiple burial locations located around Pima County were where the remains of Hurtado were discovered.
When the punishment is handed out on June 24 at 1:30 p.m., Salinas could be condemned to a maximum of life in prison.
The missing person report for Hurtado was filed on March 19, 2020, after Salinas had picked her up from Mexico in order for her to travel to Tucson to meet her family.
Hurtado allegedly sent a text message to a friend on March 18 stating that she felt frightened with Salinas, according to the investigators. The buddy informed Hurtado’s mother, who made an effort to get in touch with Salinas but was unsuccessful.
After receiving a phone call from Hurtado’s mother, Salinas informed her that her son had stolen away. Hurtado’s mother filed a missing person report for the girl at that time.
The forensic evidence indicated that a violent crime had taken place at Salinas’ residence, and the detectives discovered a female’s clothing that was covered in blood, together with objects from Salinas’s residence, in a skip which was located nearby.
