Man Brutally Slammed 4-month-old on Floor; Arrested after Kid Died on the way to Hospital in Pittsburgh

A father faces charges of abusing his 4-month-old son, following reports from Pittsburgh police that the infant was hospitalized with severe injuries and subsequently passed away.

On Saturday afternoon, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the infant succumbed to his injuries at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Authorities in Pittsburgh reported that a 4-month-old infant was brought to a hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, showing clear indications of mistreatment. Authorities reported that the child was transported to Children’s Hospital in a critical state, suffering from numerous serious injuries. A medical professional reported that the child sustained four distinct skull fractures, as stated in the legal document. He sustained fractures in both shoulders, suffered from dead brain tissue, and exhibited bruising around his eye and scalp.

Investigators from the Violent Crime Unit have assumed control of the case and obtained a search warrant for the residence located on Yew Street in Bloomfield. The authorities reported that the 28-year-old father, Seth Williams, was discovered concealed in the basement of the apartment building.

Williams has been apprehended and is now in custody at the Allegheny County Jail. He faces five serious felony charges related to aggravated assault and two charges concerning the safety of children.

The mother informed authorities that she entrusted her baby and two other children to her boyfriend, Williams, while she went to her job. She reported receiving a call from him indicating that there was a crisis at home following an incident where the other children had toppled the baby’s bassinet.

Authorities reported that the mother returned to find her apartment in chaos and noticed a bruise on her infant’s head. Throughout the night, she kept a close watch on him, but the following day, during the trip to the hospital, the baby lost consciousness and stopped breathing, according to police reports.

As the inquiry progressed, authorities discovered that one of the other minors sustained an eye injury. The child reported to authorities that their father had forcefully thrown them to the ground, resulting in the injury. The individual reported to authorities that their father had hurled the infant onto the ground.

On Wednesday, following the child’s admission to the hospital, authorities in Pittsburgh reported that the child was in “grave condition.” The physician indicated that the infant’s injuries are “not compatible with life and the outlook aligns with death,” as stated in the police report.

A baby was declared deceased shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office.

According to neighbors, Williams kept an eye on the three children during their mother’s work hours. The inquiry continues to unfold.
