A man from Southern California received a 152-year prison sentence for the sexual assault of young girls.
Omar Cruz-Hernandez, 39, from Oxnard, received his sentence on Friday for the heinous acts of raping and sexually abusing several children, as reported by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
On June 23, 2023, detectives from the Oxnard Police Department launched an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse.
The individual reported to authorities that she had endured sexual abuse at the hands of Cruz-Hernandez starting at the age of 10. A second individual reported to authorities that she had endured sexual abuse by the accused starting at the age of 7.
Authorities discovered that the individual was able to reach the young girls due to a family connection.
On August 2, a jury found him guilty on seven felony counts related to child sexual abuse.
The convictions included:
- Engaging in sexual intercourse or sodomy with a child 10 years of age or younger
- Continuous sexual abuse
- Rape by force, fear, or threats
- Lewd or lascivious act: child 14 or 15 years
- Lewd or lascivious act: child under 14 years
The jury confirmed the allegation that Cruz-Hernandez committed sexual assault against several victims.
On September 13, he received a sentence of 152 years to life in state prison.
“The defendant committed unspeakable acts of sexual abuse against multiple vulnerable children,” said Michael Kern, a Ventura County District Attorney who prosecuted the case. “While nothing will ever undo the harm that the defendant inflicted, I hope this sentence provides even a small amount of closure to the victims and allows their healing process to continue. This sentence also demonstrates that these crimes will not be tolerated in our community and ensures that the defendant will never harm another child.”
