According to the announcement made by Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark on Friday, an inmate at Rikers Island has been charged with assaulting a transgender inmate while she was incarcerated inside her designated cell.
According to the allegations, the inmate threatened the transgender inmate with a handmade ice pick in exchange for participating in sexual practices.
Clark stated in a statement that any sexual assault committed against a person who is incarcerated will be prosecuted to the utmost degree possible. The victim was presented with a bizarre decision by the assailant, who was apparently armed with a sharp weapon. The victim could either be stabbed or sexually assaulted.
An investigation revealed that on May 12, 2022, the defendant assaulted the transgender inmate who was being held in the Anna M. Kross Center detention facility.
