A woman from the Tabor City area has lost custody of her son and is facing several criminal charges after reportedly neglecting the infant while using crack cocaine.
Kayla Hope Tyndall, 27, is currently in custody with a secured bond set at $10,000. She faces charges including child negligence resulting in serious injury, misdemeanor child abuse, misdemeanor larceny, and over 20 counts of obtaining property through false pretenses. The jail records show her address as 14 Tater Bug Lane, Tabor City.
Tyndall is accused of taking out a drain tube from her eight-month-old son’s groin after not attending a follow-up appointment post-surgery. An infant was taken to McLeod Medical Center and subsequently moved to Novant New Hanover due to a severe infection.
A report indicated that a social worker at Novant reached out to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office following a urine screening that revealed cocaine in the child’s system.
Tyndall reportedly acknowledged being aware of the infection at the surgical site but failed to act due to her crack cocaine use over the course of two days, according to the report.
As deputies pursued warrants related to child abuse, the Department of Social Services reached out to law enforcement to inform them that Tyndall had been instructed to vacate the hospital, and DSS was in the process of seeking custody of the infant boy.
During the investigation of that case, it was reported that Tyndall’s former boyfriend, David Little, claimed that Tyndall had supposedly taken several hundred dollars from his mother, Deborah Tyson. Tyndall was residing with Tyson at that moment, according to the report, and retrieved the information from Tyson’s pocketbook. According to the report, Tyndall is accused of accessing Tyson’s banking information and withdrawing $1,475 from two bank accounts through CashApp between April and September.
Tyndall was taken into custody on October 10 at her residence, facing 25 charges related to obtaining property under false pretenses, neglect, and child abuse. A misdemeanor larceny warrant was issued for her by Shallotte Police.
