Horry County, SC– Following the discovery of a baby she was looking after with life-threatening injuries, a Horry County is facing severe accusations of child abuse.
According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, 45-year-old Shonta Gore-Bellamy was detained on October 3 under charges of severely injuring a child.
The charge arises from an inquiry into the grave injuries sustained by a child in her care in April.
Records state Between Feb. 5 and April 10, 2024 Gore-Bellamy watched the 4-month-old. The child had obvious facial injuries on the last day he was picked up from Gore-Bellamy’s house.
According to SLED, the infant was checked at many hospitals and had bruises to his eyes and upper lip as well as several arm and rib fractures at different phases of recovery.
According to the warrants, the injuries matched physical abuse—more especially, violent head trauma linked with shaking.
Doctors claimed the injuries “caused a substantial risk of death” and needed long-term therapy.
It is unclear whether the accused is related to the victim. Also, it is not disclosed who discovered the abuse and reported the authorities.
Gore-Bellamy was detained at J. Reuben Long Detention Center but was subsequently freed on a $10,000 bond. The authorities did not provide more details at the time of publication.
