Gages Lake, IL: A Gages Lake resident is now facing multiple charges following an incident where he reportedly inflicted a severe injury to another individual’s abdomen during a heated dispute on Saturday morning.
A 23-year-old man, Anthony Osmena, has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated battery and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives.
According to authorities, a 24-year-old man from Round Lake Beach was critically injured in an incident that led to the charges.
Deputies reported that Osmena and the victim were in a car together on West Big Oaks Road when a disagreement arose between them.
The driver of the vehicle eventually stopped near Eastwood Avenue and Chippewa Road to let Osmena off, but deputies say he and the victim both got out of the vehicle.
According to deputies, the altercation escalated and Osmena reportedly used a knife to inflict a severe injury to the victim’s abdomen.
The victim sustained severe injuries, resulting in the protrusion of a portion of his intestinal tract. The driver promptly transported the injured individual to the hospital.
Authorities responded to the hospital in the early morning after receiving a distress call. They were informed that the individual was in a critical state and had been rushed into surgery.
Osmena was later identified as a suspect in the case and was apprehended by deputies at his residence.
The victim’s condition is showing signs of improvement and he is still receiving medical care at the hospital.
The cause of the argument remains unknown at this time. Osmena appeared in court for the first time on Sunday.
