Florida Woman Faces Child Abuse Charges After Daughter Falls Out of Car and Goes Missing; Witness Calls Police

A mother is being charged for allegedly failing to seek assistance for her daughter who fell out of a moving car in Hialeah. This incident led to a missing child alert, but fortunately, the girl was eventually located unharmed.

An unusual event occurred on Thursday night when Hialeah Police reported that a young girl, who was riding in her mother’s car, unexpectedly fell out.

Video footage shows a tense moment as Tasshay Mills reportedly takes hold of her daughter from a concerned bystander who witnessed the child’s fall.

The concerned witness “who observed the child alone, crying, and appearing injured, immediately intervened,” police said. While she was on the phone with police, Mills allegedly came back and “forcibly took the child from the witness, and left without providing further information,” police said.

Mills faces allegations of third-degree child abuse and child neglect. She was detained on a bond of $20,000.

A Ring camera recorded the incident, revealing the witness cradling the girl and contacting the authorities.

“Hey, are you okay? It’s okay, I’m gonna sit down. Oh my God,” the woman says in the video. “Hello? I need you to come, I need you to come.”

Shortly after, two cars arrive and the mother steps out of one of them to approach the witness.

“I’m not giving you this baby!” the witness yells.

“That is my baby!” the mother exclaims, clutching her child tightly as she walks away.

“Oh my God! I need you guys to come, she f—ing snatched the baby out of my hands!” the witness says into her phone.

According to the police, they made efforts to persuade Mills to either come back to the scene or permit the child to receive necessary medical assistance. However, she did not comply with their requests.

Early Friday morning, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an alert for a missing child.

Later on Friday, the girl and Mills were located at an undisclosed place and the girl was transported to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. The status of the girl remained uncertain.

Mills is currently in custody, although no charges have been filed at this time.

According to records obtained by NBC6, Mills has a history of previous arrests. In 2020, she was found guilty of assaulting her mother and threatening her with a kitchen knife.

Unfortunately, Mills experienced a distressing incident of domestic violence in May, when the father of her children subjected her to a brutal assault. Mills successfully obtained a court order to ensure her ex keeps a safe distance from her family.
