Mississippi Mother Arrested in Arkansas after She Brought 2-year-old to Hospital with Severe Burns; Stepfather Surrendered

A Coffeeville couple has been charged with child abuse.

Coffeeville Police were informed of a case of child abuse by Child Protective Services on Friday, September 6th.

Authorities reported that a distressing event occurred on August 31, resulting in severe second-degree burns for a two-year-old child caused by scalding water.

Alexis Johnson brought her two-year-old child to a hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, according to the police.

She was apprehended in Arkansas and has been transported.

Kerio Shelton, the stepfather, is currently in custody after surrendering himself on Friday night.

According to Coffeeville Police, both individuals are facing charges of felony child abuse.
