Florida Mother Killed Her 4-month-old Baby; Arrested after Deputies saw Her Online Searches to Sign Parental Rights Away

Lee County, FL–  A woman from Florida has been taken into custody and faces charges in connection with the death of her 4-month-old child, following reports that she made online inquiries regarding relinquishing her parental rights.

On Friday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office took Johnisha Cole, 32, into custody after an investigation concerning the tragic death of her infant. In a social media update featuring body camera footage from the incident, authorities stated that they initially responded to Cole’s residence in September following a report of an infant choking and losing consciousness.

The infant was transported to the medical facility and ultimately declared deceased. Following an initial inquiry into the infant’s injuries, characterized by law enforcement as “cruel,” the medical examiner has determined the cause of death to be homicide.

The investigators involved in the case reported that Cole “never provided explanations” for the injuries observed on her infant, which consisted of “femur and multiple rib fractures, extensive bruising, and significant abdominal swelling.” The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was due to abusive head trauma.

The sheriff’s office reported that the investigation involved examining Cole’s phone and internet history, revealing some concerning findings. Cole reportedly looked up questions such as “How long do you have to make a police report?” and “How to sign away parental rights?”

She reportedly communicated with others suggesting that she wished for the baby to die and that she had shaken the child.
