Ex-San Juan Deputy Facing Child Rape Charges Dies by Suicide Post-Release

San Juan County, UT- Tragically, a retired San Juan County Sheriff’s deputy, who had been arrested on serious charges including rape of a child and forcible sex abuse of minors, passed away by suicide shortly after being released from custody.

This news was confirmed by an employee at the San Juan Attorney’s Office.

A body was discovered by an employee at Grayson W. Redd’s business in San Juan County.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office released a statement stating that the allegations against Redd go back several decades, following his recent arrest.

The statement posted to social media on July 21 emphasizes the commitment of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and County Attorney to upholding the law and protecting society’s most vulnerable individuals. It highlights their dedication to holding all perpetrators accountable, regardless of their employment or social status.

According to court documents, Redd has been charged with a total of 14 counts, including serious offenses such as rape of a child simulated intercourse, aggravated sexual abuse of a child, and forcible sexual abuse.

The reported offenses took place from 2004 to 2012, during the time when the purported victims were children.

Grayson was set free from custody after posting a $20,000 bond shortly before his passing as reported by The Times Independent.
