According to allegations, a disabled patient of a nursing home in Geneva was allegedly impregnated by a man who is 22 years old and lives in Chicago. He has been charged with sexual assault.
Isaiah Fields, who lives in the 5000 block of West Maple Avenue on the Northwest Side of Chicago, was the subject of a positive DNA test, according to the prosecutors in Kane County, who issued an arrest order for him. Friday was the day when Fields was brought into custody.
The victim had lived in the Marklund Hyde Centre in Geneva, which is located in the western suburbs, for a significant amount of time. The facility’s administrators found out about her pregnancy a month ago, and she went on to give birth at Delnor Hospital in Geneva after that.
In a statement, the legal representative for the state referred to the conduct as “heinous against a vulnerable individual.” As a result of Fields’ knowledge that the victim had serious problems and that she was unable to give consent, the prosecution filed charges against him for sexual assault and battery.
Between the dates of August 1 and September 5 of 2023, the prosecution claims that Fields assaulted the victim. Prior to the arrest of Fields, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office had gathered DNA samples from male workers of Marklund as well as those who had worked there in the past.
Founded in 1954, Marklund is a charitable organisation that offers residential, educational, and therapeutic services around the clock to those who have severe and profound developmental disabilities.
On Saturday afternoon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Marklund, Gil Fonger, issued a statement that included the following, in part:
“Since we first reported the case of sexual abuse against a Marklund resident on April 9, we have worked closely with the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. We are grateful for their diligent efforts, as well as the support of the Kane County State’s Attorney, which has led to the arrest of a former Marklund staff member.”
In addition, Fonger mentioned that Marklund is unable to remark on the health status of residents because of the laws that are in place under HIPAA.
The victim is non-verbal and physically challenged, and she has a bloated abdomen as a result of her condition, which most likely hid the pregnancy. Fonger responded to WGN News’s question about how a longstanding resident’s pregnancy might go unreported by stating those characteristics.
On Friday, Fields is expected to appear in court for the second time in Kane County.
