A home-based childcare provider in Indiana is facing felony charges once again following the discovery of a broken leg in a 2-month-old infant under her care.
A woman from Jeffersonville, Brittany Baylor, aged 35, is facing serious charges of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious injury. These charges are classified as Level 3 felonies.
According to Indiana State Police, Baylor operates an unlicensed, in-home daycare in Jeffersonville. In February, a 2-month-old infant was found to have a fractured leg after being collected from Baylor’s home daycare.
According to investigators, it was Baylor who placed the crying child in a car seat when a family member picked up the infant. Upon bringing the child back to their residence, a family member observed that the infant’s leg was quite sensitive, prompting them to take notice of the baby’s distress. After a visit to the hospital, it was confirmed that the child had a broken leg.
According to state police, a report from Norton’s Pediatric Protection Specialist later concluded that the injury was consistent with child physical abuse.
Baylor’s at-home daycare has once again become the focus of a serious police investigation.
Baylor is now facing additional charges following a tragic incident in 2022, where a 6-month-old boy under her care was discovered deceased, according to court records.
Last month, WDRB covered this case in which Baylor stated that she was feeding the child a bottle before a nap when the infant began vomiting and became unresponsive. Authorities responded to the residence to discover Baylor administering CPR to the child.
The autopsy report revealed that the child passed away due to a closed head injury, specifically a contusion beneath the scalp. The coroner concluded that the child’s cause of death was due to an assault.
Baylor faced charges in Clark County in June for two Level 1 felonies related to that incident. The jury trial for her case is set for October 29th.
